Brett is responsible for the underwriting and management of the Energy, Property, Construction and Terrorism products across Asia Pacific.
Brett started his insurance career in 1997 with an international reinsurer, before moving into a role as a direct insurance broker where he worked on some of Australia's largest energy and mining companies at that time.
He joined Liberty in 2002 and since then has worked in our Sydney, Hong Kong and Singapore offices. His principal experience resides in the oil and gas industry as well as the power generation segment, where he has had major involvement in writing policies for a large number of the regions refining, petrochemical and LNG producers, as well as writing many of Asia Pacific's major power producers over many years.
Brett has a Bachelor of Economics from the University of New England.

Joel is responsible for underwriting and developing Liberty’s Corporate & Commercial Property portfolio nationally.
Joel’s insurance career began in 2004 as part of the Graduate Program for a large Australian insurer. From there, he relocated to London in 2008 working for a large reinsurer underwriting Property policies both on a direct and reinsurance basis. In 2011 he was transferred back to Australia where his focus was direct Property business.
Joel joined Liberty in 2012, bringing with him a wealth of local and international experience.
Joel has completed studies at the Chartered Insurance Institute, London and holds a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Economics, Finance and International Trade from Deakin University.
After completing postgraduate studies, Joel was awarded Fellowship with ANZIIF.
Senior Underwriter, Energy, Property & Construction & WA Branch Manager

Matt's role is to oversee the Energy, Property and Construction portfolio in WA. This involves new business development, handling renewals and actively engaging with brokers and clients to meet their insurance needs in this sector. With his additional responsibility as WA Branch Manager, Matt also coordinates all product lines for Liberty in WA to ensure consistency across the business and to assist where possible in broadening our value proposition and customer focussed culture.
Matt has worked in the insurance industry for over 31 years and has experience in underwriting, broking and reinsurance. Matt worked in Melbourne for 11 years and has been based in Perth since 2001 and with Liberty since the opening of its Perth office in 2012.
He is a Senior Associate of ANZIIF.
Assistant Vice President and Manager of Australian EPC Risk Engineering
Energy, Property & Construction
Based in Sydney, Mehdi works across the Asia Pacific region conducting site surveys and assessing risk in oil and gas production; refining; power generation; mining and construction projects. His key priorities are in providing regional direction with technical support to Liberty's underwriters as well as providing risk control consultation to brokers and clients.
Mehdi holds an Honours degree in Chemical Engineering. He has worked in various risk management roles since 2009 and has been trained as a fire protection engineer and chemical risk surveyor in the United States and Germany respectively. He has worked internationally and provided consultation in the specific areas of fire, machinery breakdown and natural hazard perils to a variety of different sectors, with special focus on the petrochemicals industry.
Mehdi is a member of the Institution of Engineers Australia, and a Chartered Professional Engineer (Australia), including registration under Queensland legislation (RPEQ). Mehdi is also an associate member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers in the specialist field of Process Safety.
Senior Risk Engineer, Energy, Property & Construction

Based in Melbourne, Phillip provides guidance to Liberty's Energy, Property and Construction underwriters on technical aspects of risk selection in the Australasian region, as well as providing risk control expertise to brokers and clients. Working closely with Liberty's global team of risk engineers and claims professionals, Phillip specialises in Highly Protected Risk and high-challenge risk engineering.
Phillip started his career in the building services industry, having graduated with Honours in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Melbourne. He later progressed into the technical evaluation of risk, providing risk engineering services to global property insurers. Over the years, Phillip has participated in fire protection and natural hazards training programmes both in Australia and abroad, with a focused progression as a global flood and earthquake hazard specialist.
Having provided risk engineering services to the insurance industry for over a decade, Phillip brings extensive knowledge and experience to our team.
Assistant Vice President and National Manager, Energy and Power

Sara underwrites property damage and business interruption for energy (oil and gas and power, including renewables) and mining business from the Liberty Sydney office.
Sara began her insurance career in 2009 at a Lloyd’s of London syndicate. After completing their Underwriting Graduate Scheme, she progressed to an underwriting role within the energy team. Sara immigrated to Australia and joined Liberty in April 2015.
Sara holds a BSc in Business Management from the University of Surrey (UK), an Advanced Diploma in Insurance and a Certificate in Contract Wording. She is a Chartered Insurer with the Chartered Insurance Institute (UK).
Sara is a member of several industry groups, associations and committees, including the Engineering Discussion Group, the Sydney Mining Club and the Lloyd’s Australia Development Group.
Senior Vice President, Civil Construction, Global
Civil Construction
Steve focuses on Civil Project risk assessment and surveys in support of underwriters across Asia and Australia. He is also involved in supporting the global Civil product line team in London.
Steve joined Liberty in July 2008 with a mandate to formulate and execute a strategy for the global roll-out of Civil Construction as a new product line within Liberty. Prior to this, Steve spent just under 20 years at Swiss Reinsurance, finishing there as Head of Engineering, Asia. During that tenure, he was primarily involved in the insurance of major construction projects worldwide working in South African, London, Zurich and Australian markets. Before his time in reinsurance, Steve spent 10 years in a variety of site-related construction activities including bridge, mining and structural erection projects.
Steve comes from a Civil Engineering background and has a Bachelor of Commerce. He is an Associate of the Insurance Institute and a Fellow of the Risk Management Institute of South Africa.
