Key responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with brokers and clients to facilitate the marketing, sale and training of the Liberty brand and products.
  • Manage the portfolio to ensure growth and retention.
  • Target new business and renewal of business in line with Liberty’s quality selection and adequate pricing guidelines.
  • Execute selling and negotiation strategies to ensure profitability of assigned EIL product lines.
  • Ensuring brokers/clients receive a high level of service that differentiates Liberty from its competitors.
  • Communicating with other product line Underwriters in order to leverage cross-selling opportunities and deliver a complete service to brokers and clients.
  • Ensuring premium payments are received and discrepancies investigated in a timely manner.
  • Providing input into product development and marketing plans including market research, competitor analysis, product design and geographic/segment focus.
  • Review and negotiate policy terms and conditions including assisting with the production of manuscript policy wordings and endorsements.
  • Representing Liberty at industry social events, conferences and other relevant market related presentations.
  • Compile and present training to brokers and industry stakeholders.
  • Strengthening the Liberty Brand and own profile within the market to develop strategic relationships.
  • Work closely with claims, risk management and all other key internal stakeholders to promote Liberty’s “integrated business unit approach” and ensure seamless delivery of underwriting services.
  • Ensuring compliance with all legal, statutory and corporate affairs requirements on a timely basis.

Qualifications and Soft Skills

  • Tertiary qualifications essential, a discipline in Environmental is desirable.
  • Significant previous relevant experience in the General (non-Life) Insurance industry and in an aligned role preferably within an insurance company.
  • Strong Technical Underwriting skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a successful portfolio and ability to shape the business model and philosophy.
  • Advanced relationship building skills as well as excellent verbal, written communications and presentation skills.
  • Strong selling and negotiation skills and an advanced ability to drive for results and focus on outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously.

Key responsibilities

This underwriter role is to be based in Sydney and provides a rare opportunity to develop your career as part of a market-leading, dedicated team of underwriting professionals.  We are looking for an intelligent and enthusiastic candidate to work within our regional Asia Pacific team to underwrite transaction liability risks throughout the region with a particular focus on providing warranty and indemnity insurance cover for M&A transactions.

GTS is proud of its reputation for training and developing staff and as such, this role offers great potential for an individual with a strong legal or M&A background interested in establishing or further developing expertise in this exciting and growing sector of the insurance market. The successful candidate will attend to the following responsibilities:

  • Underwriting M&A transactions including:
    • assessing target business risks
    • reviewing sale and purchase agreements and due diligence reports/materials
    • negotiating and finalising policy wording and coverage. 
  • Working as part of a joined up Asia Pacific team of underwriters as well as independently to eventually lead underwriting of transactions.
  • Ensuring that brokers and clients receive a high level of underwriting service and certainty of execution that differentiates GTS from its competitors.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships with brokers and clients to facilitate deal appointments.
  • Assisting the team to build the Liberty GTS brand through marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Providing technical training and guidance to other junior members of the team.
  • Continuing to seek improvement of the product and its practices and processes.
  • Contributing to an effective team environment by interacting professionally with all team members in line with GTS core values.

Qualifications and Soft Skills

Key responsibilities

  • Pro-actively handle a book of specialty lines property, energy and construction claims across Australia throughout the entire claim life cycle;
  • Managing complex claims including class actions and multi defendant contractual claims;
  • Interpreting policy coverage and determining if coverage applies to claims submitted and managing complex indemnity positions;
  • Participating directly in mediation and arbitration settlements where necessary and arranging expeditious and economical claim settlements;
  • Ensuring that internal and external stakeholders and Liberty clients consistently receive a high level of claims service that differentiates Liberty from its competitors;
  • Working closely with the underwriting and risk engineering departments to promote Liberty’s “integrated business unit approach” and ensure seamless delivery of underwriting and claims management services;
  • Managing performance of external service providers;

Qualifications and Soft Skills

  • 5+ years significant previous claims management experience in the Insurance or Legal industry essential;
  • Extensive experience in successfully investigating and managing high value and complex claims;
  • A high level of communication and influencing skills;
  • Tertiary qualifications in Insurance, Legal, Business or Engineering discipline desirable;
  • Exceptional ability at developing effective relationships;
  • A very sound work ethic;
  • Sound knowledge of the Insurance Contracts Act and demonstrated ability to understand and apply legal principles to the management of claims;
  • Excellent working knowledge of PC based systems and applications such as Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database systems for managing contacts, schedules and calendars is required.
