Community

Community

At Liberty Specialty Markets we are committed to living our values each and every day.

Our purpose is to help people embrace today and confidently pursue tomorrow. Our people are ambassadors of our values and together we support our local communities, environment, social projects and charities.

Living our Values

As a Mutual, we are environmentally conscious and a force for social good, while operating with the highest standards of governance (ESG).

To find out more about our projects and how we deliver on our commitment globally, please read our latest Environmental, Social and Governance Review.

Charity Support

As underwriters, we understand how important security is for business. We also know how critical a sense of security is to helping people confront and overcome adversity.

As a Mutual we exists to help people embrace today and confidently pursue tomorrow, and this purpose serves as a guiding principle for our philanthropic efforts.

The focus of our charitable giving is to invest in community initiatives dedicated to empowering individuals who are experiencing homelessness, advancing access for people with disabilities, and expanding educational opportunities for underserved students.

Studio A

Studio A in Sydney supports the work of artists living with intellectual disability, helping them achieve their artistic and economic aspirations.

Artists working with Studio A have access to a fully-equipped studio space and support staff, as well as weekly workshop run by invited established artists. The Studio A artists work in a range of mediums and their work is strategically marketed to a diverse range of art, design, craft and corporate markets.

Studio A operates as a social enterprise and revenue raised by its activities is reinvested in the program; however, income generated by the sale of artwork benefits the artists directly. The studio supports the artists' sense of belonging, self-esteem and future aspirations, and reduces the stigma associated with disability in the wider community.

Liberty has supported Studio A for more than a decade. Studio A artists regularly design and make the decorations for the Liberty Christmas party.

Liberty Art Awards

We have partnered with Studio A for the 2020 Art Awards. Four emerging Studio A artists were selected to participate, and have worked hard to develop nine vibrant artworks.

Meet the four selected artists for the 2020 Awards and hear their stories.

Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

In 2020, in the wake of the Australian bushfires and during the COVID pandemic, Liberty Specialty Markets formed a partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. On the doorstep of our offices, the Gardens are not only one of Australia’s most beautiful botanical spaces, they also form Australia’s oldest scientific institution and play an important role in advancing understanding of plant life in NSW and Australia.

Today Liberty is proud to be a Major Partner of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney, with our funding specifically supporting the Youth Community Greening program that closely aligns with our community pillars of Accessibility and Education.

Nelune Foundation

The Nelune Foundation is a not-for-profit charity that is committed to 'helping patients fight cancer with dignity'. It supports people of all ages and their families cope with cancer by providing support, care and post-operative medical aids not covered by government or private funding.

Founded in 2001 by Nelune Rajapakse OAM and Anna Guillan AM, the foundation has so far raised over $21 million for ongoing projects, including cancer care services for children, young adults and adults at hospitals in greater-metropolitan Sydney, Orange and Bathurst; the world-class Nelune Centre in Darlinghurst; the new Nelune Comprehensive Cancer Centre at the Prince of Wales Hospital, Randwick; and the Rebecca Wilson Fellowship in Breast Cancer Research, inaugurated in 2017.

Liberty is pleased to be a long standing supporter of the Nelune Foundation.

Ronald McDonald House

Liberty Brisbane has supported Ronald McDonald House South East Queensland (RMHSEQ) for a decade. Over the years, Liberty staff have assisted at the RMHSEQ 'Impact Day' programme, supported the RMHSEQ Red Boot Hoot Gala Ball and Red Boot Golf Day, and engaged with vulnerable families by coming into the house to cook for them.

SCOSA

SCOSA is a long-standing provider of disability services in South Australia. Founded in Adelaide in 1950, SCOSA today operates across Adelaide and selected regional areas of South Australia, providing individually tailored programmes for people living with a range of physical and intellectual disabilities, including cerebral palsy, autism, Down Syndrome, and vision or hearing impairment. SCOSA programmes are aimed at developing participants' skills while they are having fun.

Our Adelaide staff and their families regularly participate in SCOSA activities.
