Liberty International Insurance has announced three internal role progressions within the Asia Pacific executive team.
26 years after founding and continuously leading Liberty’s commercial and specialty business across Asia Pacific, Michael Abdallah will continue to focus on his passion for underwriting as the Chief Underwriting Officer for Asia Pacific. In this role Mike will have oversight of all underwriting across Liberty’s retail, commercial and specialty businesses across the region. Mike will step away from the day-to-day responsibilities of running the Liberty Specialty Markets business, continuing as Chairman of Australia.
John McCabe has been promoted to President of Australia. Previously John held the vital role of Chief Operating Officer of Asia Pacific. John takes over leadership of the Liberty Specialty Markets business in Australia, which he has played an integral part in building over the past 25 years. John’s experience includes more than 30 years in insurance and 13 years in public practice accounting, including time at Liberty Mutual’s Boston head office as global Chief Risk Officer. John will work closely with Mike during the role transition.
Vanessa Maher is appointed as the regional Chief Operating Officer for Asia Pacific, responsible for the operations across the retail, commercial and specialty businesses. Vanessa has held a wide variety of positions in her two decades with Liberty in the region, including leadership of claims, legal counsel, change management, digital strategy, risk and governance for the commercial and specialty business.

Mike, John and Vanessa continue to be based in Sydney.
